Boreas Books is an exclusively online bookstore situated in the Orkney Islands archipelago just off the north coast of Scotland. We are based in a converted water mill on the small island of South Ronaldsay. We stand at the head of Widewall Bay overlooking a seal-strewn skerry with a panoramic backdrop of open water, enfolding headlands and distant scattered islands.

We are frequently asked where our name comes from. We have taken the name from Greek mythology where Boreas was the god of the violent North Wind. Anyone who has visited the Orkney Islands and has experienced the cleansing and bracing winds that not infrequently blow through them will appreciate the appropriateness of our name.
